As part of the Energy Performance Certificate we will make recommendations on how to improve on your energy efficiency rating demonstrating areas of potential savings together with the cost of implementing the recommendations.

So,even if you are not planning on selling or renting, having an energy efficiency assessment carried out may still be worth while undertaking given the increasing cost of running our homes and businesses.

Take the case below as an example.

As in the following case the Energy Efficiency Assessment can also highlight potential issues of original construction that have long term restrictions on the efficiency of the building. The following case highlighted a poorly insulated wall that, as it turned out, was in the subject area of planned major refurbishments. The client took the opportunity to address the findings as part of the refurbishments saving money over the long term.

In the picture opposite we have the remainder of an outer wall from the original extension of a Victorian Terrace. The wall can be seen to have been constructed as a 'solid' wall and as such had negligible insulating qualities. This had been reflected the running costs of the house hold and thus, the energy efficiency of the building. Fortunately the client knew this and had undertaken to address the matter whilst introducing other features, such as double glazing, during the renovations. The opportunity was taken to reconstruct the wall in accordance with modern building regulations using a timber frame and brick outer skin with insulation in between  thus vastly increasing insulation standards. We can see the wall in construction below with the insulation used also in the shot.

Of course, not all cases are as severe as this. Please remember in this instance the client had taken advantage of planned renovations to introduce higher standards. The course of action in most cases is usually much simpler and may just involve changing a light bulb here and there or introducing loft insulation.  Whilst these examples would be relatively easy to implement for the DIY enthusiasts amongst us, they do achieve lasting and significant gains in terms of energy efficiency.

So, whether you are planning refurbishments, selling your home, renting a property or you are simply environmentally conscious and wish to know how to reduce your carbon footprint together with your bills, then we can help.
